Physiotherapist - Make a Difference in Primary Care (Whanganui)

Do you want to be a physiotherapist who shapes the future of primary healthcare? Are you passionate about improving access to services for underserved communities?

We are seeking a highly motivated Physiotherapist to join our Comprehensive Primary Care Team (CPCT) in Whanganui. This innovative role offers opportunities to work within a new model of care alongside key stakeholders and General Practice. You'll play a pivotal role in providing physiotherapy assessment and treatment to people and whānau at greatest risk of poor health outcomes.

About the Role:

  • Be part of a ground-breaking initiative transforming primary healthcare delivery.

  • Work collaboratively with a diverse team, including general practices, community providers, and Māori health services.

  • Directly assess, diagnose, and treat patients, focusing on musculoskeletal and long-term conditions.

  • Develop and deliver individualised exercise programs and self-management education.

  • Contribute to reducing hospital admissions through early supported discharge and proactive care.

  • Champion equitable access to physiotherapy services for Māori, Pasifika, and low socio-economic communities.

 

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and a relevant postgraduate qualification.

  • Demonstrates strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Has a proven track record of clinical excellence and respect from peers.

  • Has an interest in the range of areas within Physiotherapy, has willingness to develop their own learning and identify and participate in skill sharing opportunities.

  • Can contribute to processes and relationships that foster meaningful coordination of care for those with the more complex health needs.

  • Possesses a natural desire to improve access to services for underserved populations.

  • Is culturally competent and committed to working collaboratively with Māori.
