Renowned both locally and nationally as a Waka Ama champion, Anne is now gearing up to represent her country at the World Dragon Boat Racing Championships in Thailand.
Having secured her spot on the ladies over 50s team earlier this year, Anne has been tirelessly training and fundraising to fulfill yet another dream of competing at the prestigious World Championships. While Waka Ama remains her champion sport, Anne has found a new passion in Dragon Boat racing, embracing the opportunity to test her skills in a different setting.
Reflecting on her transition from a Waka Ama waka to a Dragon Boat waka, Anne stated, "It's incredible going from a Waka Ama waka to a Dragon Boat Waka – but the concept is the same. I love it." Her dedication to the sport and her unwavering commitment to water sports have undoubtedly contributed to her success and recognition within the community.
Training alongside her crew in Hamilton and with a local group of wāhine, Anne has left no stone unturned in her quest to deliver her best performance on the international stage. Recognizing the financial challenges of competing at this level, Anne has taken the initiative to fundraise, garnering support from her community and the team at WRHN.
