Frequently Asked Questions about B4SC

Dampness

The symptoms of excess moisture and dampness
  • Musty smells in rooms that are closed for any period of time.
  • Damp or mould on clothes or shoes in wardrobes.
  • Mould or mildew forming behind paintings, mirrors etc.
  • Stains or watermarks on ceilings or walls.
  • Mould on ceilings and walls, particularly in kitchens or bathrooms.
  • Problems with areas of rotting wood in the structure of your house.
  • Damp or mould under the house.

Ventilation

Ways to ventilate your home
  • The simplest and cheapest way to ventilate your home is to open doors and windows regularly to allow fresh air from outside into your home.
  • In summer, open windows and doors in different parts of your home to create a cross-draught, which will circulate air and help keep your house cool.
  • In winter, air your house at least once a day for a few minutes with wide open doors and windows to create a cross-draught. This will quickly replace stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air.

Heating

Comparing the options

Heat pumps - Good for:
  • Low running costs, when used properly
  • Producing instant heat
  • Convenience, as you can control the temperature and timing with the thermostat and timer controls
Heat pumps - Be aware that:
  • They must be sized correctly for the space and the climate to work well (if you live in a colder area, ask the supplier to size the heat pump based on its "H2" performance)

Insulation

The order of priority for insulating your home should be:
  1. Ceiling
  2. Under the floor
  3. Walls (or if not possible to insulate walls, make sure the curtains are thermal and touch the floor)
