The Ministry of Health has contracted Deloitte for the initial planning and design phase of the new National Bowel Screening Programme IT system, referred to as the National Screening Solution (NSS). The work is expected to be completed in late July.
Subject to Deloitte’s performance, and approval of the business case, the Ministry will either continue with the provider or select another for any subsequent implementation and build phase.
Director of Service Commissioning Jill Lane says it is exciting to be partnering with Deloitte to begin designing a fit-for-purpose IT system that is critical for the safe delivery of the National Bowel Screening Programme.
“The technology will enable easy management of the bowel screening pathway, support planning and management of participants, monitor safety and quality, and enable ongoing evaluation of the programme.”
She says in time the IT system may be extended to other programmes.
“While the NSS will primarily support the operation of the National Bowel Screening Programme, it’s capable of being extended to support future population health initiatives. This follows the approach a number of other countries have taken to provide better value for money.
“The Ministry views the NSS as a long-term strategic solution which is capable (over time and subject to approval and funding for extension) of contributing to an improved consumer experience for New Zealanders.”
